Filing the JDF forms with the courts and getting you appointed personal representative is the first and most important step. The next step, and a very time intensive step, is getting the Estate inventory completed and all property and assets transferred into the estates name. From there an accounting is done to determine the total value of all assets included. Expenses and taxes can be paid from the estate as opposed to coming out of the personal representatives pocket. It is of incredible importance that this process be followed precisely as the Colorado Probate Code dictates, as it can lead to legal complications down the road if one or more of the steps are not complete.
